The Japan National Monopoly Championship was held at Kansai International Airport in Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture on July 18 and 19. The Japan Monopoly Association holds the tournament to determine the best player of the board game in Japan, and this was the first time for the tournament to be held at an airport.

The tournament opened with the first-round preliminaries on July 18 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport, and the second and third rounds were staged on the 19th from 9:00 a.m. in the Tsubasa No Hiroba (Tsubasa Plaza) on the fourth floor of the passenger terminal. The finals started at 2:00 p.m. in the plaza. Starting at noon on the 18th in the Aero Plaza on the second floor, the Monopoly Taught by World Champions class with a former number-one player in the world, and the Last Chance

Tournament to compete for a final spot in the national championship,

were held as pre-events.

The Osaka Monopoly board produced by the association was used for the championship. This localized edition of the game appeared in December of last year to help revitalize the Osaka area, and it features local symbols like Osaka Castle, Midosuji, Glico and Kansai International Airport.

The winner of the tournament will represent Japan in the world championship.
