On July 29 Wire and Wireless, or Wi2, based in Minato Ward, Tokyo, announced data on user nationality for its Wi2 300 WLAN internet connection service on highway buses operated by Airport Limousine Bus, Tokyu Bus and Keisei Bus that serve Haneda and Narita Airports
According to survey results, Japanese were the majority of users at 59%, followed by Americans at 18%, and Australians and Taiwanese at 3% each. Foreign visitors made up 41% of total users. Wi2 says connecting to the internet with netbooks and mobile devices like the BlackBerry has become routine in English-speaking countries. The company also said that when these countries’ citizens come to Japan, they now know that an online environment has been set up here, too.
From the beginning, Wi2 considered the perspective of airport visitors from overseas with regards to its in-bus service, and it is already delivering content from the free English-language magazine Metropolis in addition to Japanese articles from Nikkei BP, Inc.
The survey was based on the results of questionnaires given by Wi2 to bus passengers using the service.
