The My Airport Declaration, a program being promoted by Ariake Saga Airport in Saga City, Saga Prefecture to revitalize the airport, is doing well.

The program was started up by Saga Prefecture and the Ariake Saga Airport Revitalization Promotion Committee in April of this year. It is part of the My Airport Movement that is actively urging people to visit the airport and to think of it as “our airport” by working with local business groups and other entities. Businesses in southwest Fukuoka and Saga Prefectures announce specific actions to support Ariake Saga Airport and become My Airport Declaration Businesses. Specific examples of these announcements include “We will increase our use of Ariake Saga Airport for business trips from 50% to 80%” and “We will use nighttime flights out of Ariake Saga Airport to export cargo overseas.”

For becoming a Declaration Business, a company receives gifts such as a “Special Air Ticket (good for one roundtrip commercial flight out of Ariake Saga Airport; can be used twice in a year),” “an introduction of your company via advertising at the Ariake Saga Airport website and elsewhere” and “discount limousine taxi tickets.” It will also receive regular campaign information.

The number of Declaration Businesses has been building at a good pace, and in July, FM Saga, in Saga City, brought the total to 109. Seven municipalities have also made declarations, starting with the city of Ogi in June. According to a prefectural Airport and Transportation Division official, the increase in the number of Declaration Businesses “has exceeded initial expectations,” as awareness of the program is spreading among local businesses and organizations due to measures to expand the flight schedule and improve transportation and other airport facilities.
