Sora no Eki a Popular Shop at Misawa Airport - Tiger Mackerel Bo-sushi and Bamboo Charcoal Cream Puffs Selling Well
(08/28/2009)
Sora no Eki Misawa, a store at Misawa Airport in Misawa, Aomori Prefecture, has been getting favorable reviews.
On July 17, Misawa Airport Terminal Company, which manages and operates the passenger terminal at the airport, opened the store on the second floor, near the departures lobby, to bring more local Aomori specialties to airport visitors. It is presenting and selling agricultural produce, seafood and processed foods made with ingredients grown from locations in the surrounding area, including the city of Misawa.
Two products currently selling well, Tiger Mackerel Bo-sushi (1,155 yen) and Bamboo Charcoal Cream Puffs (280 yen each), appear in the store and on its website as “recommended items.” The Tiger Mackerel Bo-sushi, produced by the Hachinohe New City Hotel Fish Workshop Nanae, uses fatty mackerel unloaded at the port in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture. It is made using a very unconventional process with especially large 600-gram mackerel. The Bamboo Charcoal Cream Puffs, made by Toda Akitsukido, uses Aomori apples and Japanese bamboo charcoal. By eating these pastries, which feature a black color created by bamboo charcoal with a liberal amount of minerals mixed with the cream, you can enjoy compote and apple cream.
According to a Misawa Airport Terminal Company spokesperson, airport visitors have said that they are “interested in buying local agricultural produce and processed foods, in addition to finding typical airport snack box souvenir sets” in the month since the store opened.
Business hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
