On August 26, Tokyo-based UQ Communications Inc. announced that it will expand its UQ WiMAX broadband mobile data transmission service area to make it available in Terminals 1 and 2 of Narita International Airport in Narita, Chiba Prefecture.

UQ WiMAX is a high-speed data transmission service with a maximum download speed of 40 Mbps and a fixed monthly rate of 4,480 yen. Each base station makes for mobile transmissions with both speed and mobility covering a considerably wider area than wireless LAN.

UQ WiMAX started as a new mobile data transmission service in February of this year covering parts of Kawasaki, Yokohama and Tokyo's twenty-three wards. In April, the entirety of Terminals 1 and 2 at Haneda Airport became service areas. UQ Communications plans to continue setting up service areas to expand and make UQ WiMAX accessible in other Japanese airports.
