On September 18, as part of Narita International Airport’s (Narita, Chiba Prefecture) second PR expansion effort to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its opening, the airport began using a new catch copy phrase: “Power up! NARITA 2010.”

The new catch copy was chosen to directly announce to airport visitors the “big changes” happening at the airport, which include the opening of 2,500-meter Runway B on October 22, the expansion of arrival and departure slots and the network of routes to other airports in March of next year, and the scheduled opening of the Narita Rapid Railway to follow thereafter.

With the design, the copy directly and powerfully conveys an easily understood image of “evolution” and “enhancement” to show Narita's function as an international airport for the Tokyo area, while simultaneously expressing the airport as a sophisticatedly refined space. Narita plans to expand its publicity with posters, PR brochures, websites, PR activities within the airport and tie-ups with associated companies.

This second publicity phase, in which the new catch copy will be used, will finish at the end of 2010. An airport spokesperson said, “We are going to power up the convenient airport more and more as a Japanese international airport, and enliven the aviation industry as a whole [through our expanded publicity].”
