On October 26, Tokyo-based ANA (All Nippon Airways) will establish its Okinawa Cargo Hub at Naha Airport in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture to act as a hub in an air cargo shipping network connecting eight airports in Japan and East and Southeast Asia.

Making use of Okinawa’s advantageous geographical location, it will operate as a hub (transshipment point) connecting Okinawa with Narita, Haneda and Kansai Airports in Japan, as well as Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei and Bangkok (initially via Taipei), thus constructing a cargo shipping network covering all of East and Southeast Asia. By arranging a shipping schedule that operates late-night international cargo flights arriving at their destinations in the early morning, ANA says that the hub will make later cargo booking deadlines possible for next morning delivery to consignees.

According to ANA, the new cargo hub, in combination with the airline’s network of operations and its fine service, will “realize a business model that can offer optimal ‘time value’ for customer needs, not just the conventional aircraft cargo space.”
