Name for Narita New Rapid Railway “Narita Sky Access” - New Skyliner to Run Soon
(01/04/2010)
On December 16, Keisei Electric Railway, based in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, announced that the company Narita Rapid Railway Access has decided to name the Narita New Rapid Railway’s route (51.4 km between Keisei Takasago and Narita Airport currently under construction) the Narita Sky Access Line.
The new route will provide a new transport link between Narita International Airport and downtown Tokyo in 36 minutes. It is slated to open in June 2010, after which the Keisei Electric Railway’s “New Skyliner” will run on the tracks at speeds of up to 160 km/h.
Seeking to make the name for the new route more familiar, the company invited suggestions from the public around New Year’s last year. The reason for the selection from among the 3,699 ideas submitted was that “it directly expresses in a straightforward way that the line connects to Narita Airport, and the [Japanese] characters in the name make a good impression. It will be clearly understood among passengers that it provides a new transport link to Narita Airport.”
