In March, Shibuya Ward-based Starbucks Coffee Japan, Ltd. and Minato Ward-based All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. (ANA) announced they have agreed to partner up for a new service providing coffee and other products in-flight.

The service will start on April 14, when the ANA My Choice drink menu from which passengers can purchase beverages on domestic flights will begin offering Starbuck Via Coffee Essence in an instant coffee drink for 200 yen. On the same day, the drink will launch in all Starbucks Coffee stores in Japan as the Premium Stick Coffee.

Starting April 1, ANA will begin charging for all beverages in economy class on domestic flights, with the exclusion of water and Japanese tea, although Via Coffee Essence will be provided free of charge for a limited time until May 31 as part of a sampling sales campaign to promote the launch of the new service.

According to Starbuck Coffee Japan, the two companies have much in common such as “devotion to quality products and customer service” and agreed to collaborate in the hopes of developing a new service. ANA will be the first Japanese airline to provide Starbucks brand coffee.

Specific details on the service under the partnership will be forthcoming as they are worked out.
