Tickets for a unique tour that crosses the Japanese archipelago in propeller planes are now on sale.

Shinagawa Ward-based JAL Tours Co., Ltd., which handles Japan Airlines’ (JAL) domestic tour business, is seeking members for a “two to three-day journey across the Japanese archipelago in propeller planes.” The tour starts at Haneda Airport, flying to Tancho Kushiro Airport in Hokkaido, where passengers will transfer to a Saab 340, Q400 or other JAL Group prop planes to meander down to Kumejima or Yonaguni and Ishigaki Islands in Okinawa Prefecture.

The itinerary for the two-day course starts at Haneda Airport, followed by visits to Tancho Kushiro, New Chitose, Shinshu Matsumoto, Osaka (Itami), Fukuoka and Kagoshima Airports, with a stay at a hotel in the city of Kagoshima. The second day’s journey goes from Kagoshima Airport to Hiroshima Nishi Airport, back to Kagoshima Airport and then on to Yoron, Naha and Kumejima Airports, back to Naha and finally to Haneda Airport. The three-day course has an overnight stay in Kumejima on the second day, and on the third day travelers will then fly from Kumejima Airport to Naha, Yonaguni and Ishigaki Airports, back to Naha and then to Haneda Airport. Jet aircraft will be flown between Haneda and Kushiro, Ishigaki and Naha and from Naha to Haneda since prop planes are not used on these routes.

The tour departs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays until May 28 and costs upwards of 138,800 yen, including one breakfast (two for the three-day course) and hotel accommodations. According to a JAL spokesperson, those joining the three-day tour will “be able to luxuriously enjoy propeller planes to their heart’s content” by traveling on 13 prop plane flights covering a distance of approximately 4,200 kilometers.
