Tracks Replaced on Tokyo Monorail at Haneda Airport - New Route Via Nearly Complete International Section

Minato Ward, Tokyo-based Tokyo Monorail Co., Ltd. closed about 900 meters of track between Tenkubashi and Shinseibijo Stations in the Haneda Airport area from April 10 until the following morning to move the section up to 250 meters further towards the interior of the airport island. All trains began running on the new route as of April 11.

In conjunction with the airport’s expansion and re-internationalization, the track was replaced so that trains can stop at the new Haneda Airport International Terminal Station. Construction on the 37 sections of elevated track has continued since last year along with the new terminal and station.

Service was also suspended between Showajima and Haneda Airport Terminal 2 Stations to replace old “beams,” install new ones and put together the new track. According to a Tokyo Monorail spokesperson, a large-scale suspension of rail service last occurred in 1993 when the current Terminal 1 was completed. The spokesperson also said that the large and complicated construction project to replace inbound and outbound rail in a single day and night was “probably the first and last time.”

All trains will pass the new station until the terminal opens in October.
