The Hagi Iwami Airport National Marathon will be held on October 17 at Hagi Iwami Airport in Masuda, Shimane Prefecture.

The event is a city residents’ race first held in 2008 to promote the airport and local tourism. All races include a roundtrip course on the 2,000-meter runway used at the airport. According to the office organizing the event, it is "the only one in Japan” where you can run on an actual airport runway. The last two events brought together over 2,000 participants made up of amateur runners and aviation enthusiasts from across Japan.

The courses are the Half Marathon (21.0975 km, an official course recognized by the Japan Association of Athletics Federation), a 10K, a 5K, a 3K, a 2K, and a family course for children up to elementary age to join along with their parents, guardians and participants in a wheelchair. A maximum of 3,000 people are being sought for the collective events. Entries can be made online or through the post starting this month.
