Regular Charter Flights between Kansai and Cheongju by Korean Air - Regular Commercial Flights Starting in September

Korean Air (KE) has been operating regular charter flights between Kansai International Airport in Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture and Cheongju International Airport in South Korea since June 21.

The aircraft serving the route is a Boeing 737-900 with 187 economy class-only seats. Korean Air is flying three weekly charter flights between June 21-July 17 and August 9-30. The airline hopes for the flights to become regular commercial flights starting in September.

Cheongju International Airport shares an airfield with the military located about 130 km southeast of Seoul. It was opened in 1997 to provide an air travel connection for the cities of Cheongju and Daejeon, as well as for nearby tourist attractions. Several domestic and international routes serve the airport, but there has been a recent slump in travelers and flights have been withdrawn one after another. Prior to the new route to Kansai, there was now only one international route (to Shenyang, China).

According to Korean Air, 2010 will be “Visit Chungcheong Year” as part of the Visit Korea Campaign (2010 - 2012), which will be accompanied by lively promotional activities for the Chungcheon area of Cheongju. Korean Air will work with travel agencies to plan tours of filming locations used in the area for shooting Korean dramas.
