Since July 17, Google Inc. has been providing an environment with a free internet connection service in Terminal 1 of Narita International Airport in Narita, Chiba Prefecture.

The service is offered with access points at five locations in the terminal: Satellite 2 (near Gates 26 and 27), Satellite 3 (near Gate 38), Satellite 4 (near Gate 42) and the South Wing (near Gate 51). Special tables have been set up with LAN seating where travelers carrying laptops, smart phones, game consoles and other wireless LAN-capable devices can connect to the internet free of charge.

The transmission environment uses an infrastructure provided by NTT Broadband Platform, Inc (NTTBP). No advance reservations are required, and users merely have to go through a simple registration process to connect the first time.

NTTBP opened the Broadband Cafe in Narita’s Terminal 2 in June, which also offers free internet. By starting the new service with Google, NTTBP is now providing wireless LAN internet connections in both of the airport’s terminals.

The service in Terminal 1 will be offered until October 31.
