1.5 Mil. Cosmos Flowers Next to Runway - Ariake Saga Airport Cosmos Garden Opens
On October 24, Ariake Saga Airport in Saga, Saga Prefecture opened the Ariake Saga Airport Cosmos Garden. Roughly 1.5 million cosmos flowers have bloomed on an area of about four hectares to delight the eyes of travelers and visitors to the airport.
Local organizations and airport offices have opened the garden again to make the airport area more colorful. This summer the soil was treated and pre-school students planted seeds.
The land where the cosmos are grown is located 600 meters east of the airport garden next to the airport and is a 15-minute walk from the terminal building. It is right next to the runway, so airplane passengers can enjoy the colorful scenery as aircraft land and take off from the airport.
The site of the airport is on reclaimed land in Ariake Bay in the south part of the Saga Plain and is surrounded by vast expanses of rural land. An airport office spokesperson said, "We hope people visiting Saga during this season will enjoy the Cosmos Garden, the shichimenso flowers that dye the coastline red when they bloom and the Saga International Balloon Fiesta hot air balloon event held in November."
