Star Flyer to Establish Regular International Route between Kitakyushu and Busan

On December 27, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka-based Star Flyer Inc. announced that it will start operating commercial international flights in July of 2012.

If the airline carries out its plan to operate two daily round-trip flights on a route connecting Star Flyer's hub at Kitakyushu Airport with Busan in South Korea, it will be the third Japanese carrier with international commercial flights along with Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (JAL) and All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. (ANA).

Star Flyer has operated international charter flights on routes to South Korea and elsewhere, but these would be its first regular flights overseas. "We will improve convenience for customers from northern Kyushu traveling domestically and abroad, establish the foundation for the first route to Asia originating in Kyushu [with the new route] and actively consider how to develop our business in the future," commented a spokesperson from the airline.
