UQ WiMAX Broadband Mobile Service Available at 19 Japanese Airports

On September 16, Minato Ward, Tokyo-based UQ Communications Inc. announced that UQ WiMAX service areas for high-speed mobile broadband will be offered at 28 Japanese airports.

For a monthly rate of JPY 4,480 (if subscribing to the UQ Flat plan), the service will provide users with high-speed data transmission capable of a max download speed of 40 Mbps and uploads of 10 Mbps. Since kicking off its service in 2009 in passenger terminals at Haneda Airport in Ohta Ward, Tokyo and Narita International Airport in Narita, Chiba Prefecture, UQ Communications has expanded service areas to airports across Japan that are heavily used by business travelers.

There will be 11 more airports (Niigata, Komatsu, Hiroshima, Takamatsu, Matsuyama, Nagasaki, Oita, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Kagoshima and Naha) in addition to the 8 where UQ WiMAX is already available to make a grand total of 19 airports. UQ Communications is also expanding its free wireless service called UQ Wi-Fi so that the UQ service will be available to users in 26 Japanese airports in total.
