Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd., the operator of the domestic terminals at Haneda Airport, has been offering free Wi-Fi throughout Domestic Terminals 1 and 2 since November 1.

Until now, various telecom companies have offered Wi-Fi for a charge, but now Japan Airport Terminal will provide its own service for free throughout the entire terminals (though not in stores, except lounges). Travelers will be free to use the service with their Wi-Fi compatible PCs, smartphones and other devices. Stickers are being posted through the terminals to notify people of the service.

Other companies will continue to offer pay-to-use services such as Mzone (NTT Docomo, Inc.), Hotspot (NTT Communications Corporation) and BB Mobilepoint (Softbank Telecom Corp.) as well as one-time services like BizPortal (Rikei Corporation). "We'd like people to use the pay-to-use services if they need a higher level of security," said a Japan Airport Terminal spokesperson.

"HANEDA-FREE-WIFI" is the SSID to connect. The Japanese website for "Big Bird" (the airport terminal's nickname) has instructions on how to use the service, although as of the time this article was written the English website is lacking this information.
