New Chitose Airport in Chitose, Sapporo Prefecture will reopen a section of its terminal on December 15 following the second phase of large-scale expansion and remodeling.

This second revamp of the terminal's services follows the first, which produced the Hokkaido Showroom that opened on July 15. The airport intends to offer more commercial services and convenience for travelers while expanding the second-floor departures lobby and adding seating. A total of 15 businesses (12 retail, 3 dining) will gradually open between December 3 and 15. Nine will be new businesses such as Harvester Yakumo, a locally-produced, locally-consumed restaurant serving dishes made with local ingredients; Samantha Thavasa Sweets & Travel, a new concept shop by Samantha Thavasa; and Calbee Plus, a pilot shop by Calbee that will sell freshly baked potato chips and other hot snacks.

In conjunction with the opening of the second remodeled section, the terminal will run a joint promotional campaign from December 10 through 25 with the Chitose Outlet Mall Rera (located next to the airport) called "Collaboration Christmas." Both facilities will leverage a total of more than 300 stores to put on a wide range of activities including a raffle to win prizes such as free travel packages and tickets to enter the outlet mall's pay-to-enter zone, sales of original merchandise and interactive events for shoppers. "Shoppers from the Sapporo area, elsewhere in and outside Hokkaido as well as from overseas will be able to enjoy a full day of fun at Hokkaido's largest shopping center," said a terminal building spokesperson.

The terminal's operator has partially altered plans to enhance facilities for observing aircraft from the third floor. Some shops in the food court and elsewhere will open for business in March of 2012.
