All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. (ANA), Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (JAL), Haneda Airport and Osaka Itami Airport have each won top prizes in categories for on-time performance among airlines and airports in the 2011 On-Time Performance Awards announced on January 19 by U.S.-based service company Conducive Technology Corp. The company chose the winners based on surveys it conducted.

ANA was the winner for arrival performance among all major international airlines and among Asian carriers. JAL won for arrival performance among major international airlines operated and codeshare flights, while JAL Group's Japan Air Commuter won for arrival performance among regional Asian airlines. The group's JAL Express (JEX) and Japan TransOcean Air also ranked high in this category.

Conducive Technology runs the FlightStats website, where online users can check the flight status of aircraft around the world in real time. The company tabulated data from January through December 2011 on more than 150,000 flights a day to compile the on-time performance rankings, with flights arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled time considered on-time.

The on-time performance rate of each carrier was 90.18% for ANA (versus 77.79% average for the category), 86.33% for JAL (versus 77.73%) and 92.60% for JEX (versus 79.80%).

Japanese airports also did well in the airport categories. Haneda Airport led the world's major airports with a 95.05% on-time performance while Osaka Itami Airport won the category for departure performance among regional Asian airports.
