Narita International Airport's Terminal 1 began providing a "baggage wrapping service" on May 31.

The traveler service wraps checked luggage such as suitcases and golf bags in plastic sheets prior to check-in with special equipment in the South Wing's fourth-floor Departure Lobby. Such services are common at other airports in Europe and Asia to prevent damage and theft and to reinforce luggage, but the one at Narita is Japan's first.

The service fee ranges between JPY 1,000 and 2,000 (depending on the size of the luggage) and wrapping is available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

In the future, Narita says it is considering installing wrapping equipment in Terminal 2.
