Starting in July, opening times for some check-in counters at Narita International Airport's Terminal 2 moved forward, with one opening two-and-a-half hours earlier.

The changes are due to early-morning flights by low-cost carriers (LCCs). The JetStar Japan counter on the terminal's first floor open at 3:30 a.m. as the airline began service for an early-morning flight on July 9 (a 6:05 a.m. departure for Kansai International Airport), while AirAsia Japan will open its first-floor counter for its 7:00 a.m. flight to Fukuoka on August 1 at 4:30 a.m.

Due to the earlier opening times at the check-in counters, some stores, such as a coffee shop in the departures lobby, open at 5:00 a.m.

There are no overnight accommodations for travelers inside the terminal. A spokesperson from Narita Airport said that plans are in the works for running shuttle buses between the airport and downtown Tokyo in order to provide a form of public transportation during these early-morning hours.

Opening times in Terminal 1, meanwhile, will remain at the usual 6:00 a.m.
