Narita Airport Surpasses 700 Mil. Travelers - Commemorative Gift for Milestone-Achieving Passenger
(12/03/2008)
On November 19, Narita International Airport (Narita, Chiba Prefecture) announced that it expected to serve its 700 millionth air traveler on November 25.
The date was determined from traveler trends and aircraft operation patterns for all air travelers since the airport’s opening in 1978.
To celebrate passing the 700 million mark, a commemorative ceremony was scheduled to take place in the afternoon of the projected date at the gate for flight ANA206 from Paris. Following a ceremony involving a speech by the airport’s president, Mr. Morinaka, and some kusadama (ornate paper decorations), the 700 millionth traveler to the airport was awarded a commemorative gift, as well as gifts for all other passengers on the flight.
The airport reached 100 million travelers in March 1988 after nine years and ten months since its opening, and 500 million travelers in September 2004.
