"Limousine Bus" Airport Shuttle Ferries Travelers from Shinjuku to Narita for Late-Night and Early-Morning LCC Flights
On August 17, Chuo Ward, Tokyo-based Airport Transport Service Co., Ltd. began operating a late-night run with its "Limousine Bus" airport shuttle service from Shinjuku Station's west gate to Narita International Airport in Narita, Chiba Prefecture.
The new service corresponds with new low-cost carrier (LCC) flights departing the airport at 6:00 a.m. The bus departs from Shinjuku Station's west gate at 1:30 a.m. and arrives at Narita Airport's Terminal 2 at 3:30 a.m. On the way it stops at the Shisui Parking Area on the Higashi-Kanto Expressway to allow passengers a break and make any necessary adjustments to stay on schedule. One-way fare is JPY 3,000 for adults and JPY 1,500 for children, but they are JPY 2,000 and JPY 1,000, respectively, during the Late-Night Run Opening Campaign that lasts until September 30.
Jetstar Japan Co., Ltd. and AirAsia Japan Co., Ltd. commenced domestic service on flights in and out of Narita Airport on July 3 and August 1, respectively. Ensuring late-night and early-morning public transportation has been an issue as travelers expect low-cost ground transport to match the low airfares offered by the two LCCs, so Sumida Ward, Tokyo-based Keisei Bus Co., Ltd. and Narita, Chiba Prefecture-based Narita Airport Transport Co., Ltd. have begun operating the Tokyo Shuttle, a low-fare highway bus between Narita Airport and Tokyo Station.
