A new route from Kansai International Airport (Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture) to Gimpo International Airport in Seoul started on December 1. Two Korean airlines are operating on the route.

The route came about as the result of an agreement reached at bilateral aviation talks between Japan and Korea held in August of this year. Four flights per day (two roundtrip) are possible starting this winter.

Each of the Korean airline companies, Asiana Airlines (OZ) and Korean Air (KE), are flying the route using Airbus A330-300s, which seat 290 passengers, and each plane makes one roundtrip flight per day between the two airports. The flight schedule is as follows:

OZ1125 - Gimpo to Kansai: 8:40 a.m. - 10:20 a.m.
KE2725 - Gimpo to Kansai: 9:00 a.m. - 10:45 p.m.
OZ1115 - Kansai to Gimpo: 11:30 a.m. - 1:20 p.m.
KE2726 - Kansai to Gimpo: 11:55 a.m. - 1:45 p.m.

Flights originating in Japan bound for Gimpo -where mostly domestic Korean routes serve- will continue to include sixteen daily charter flights (eight roundtrip) from Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport).

A spokesperson from Asiana Airlines’ publicity department expressed a desire to expand the market, saying, “The first flights from Kansai Airport were fully booked. We are going to develop our travel business to maintain stable sales. Additionally, we want people to see that we provide our customers with convenient services and that this new route will be profitable for our company.”
