Kansai International Airport in Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture installed four standard electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in its parking garages on December 27.

Under the Osaka Eco Car Popularization and Environmental Improvement Fund Subsidy System created by Osaka Prefecture's FY2012 Osaka Eco Car Popularization and Environmental Improvement Fund Subsidy Project, the airport installed two EV-only charging stations each on the fifth floors of the P1 and P2 parking garages. The stations are equipped with 200-volt outlets, which anyone may use free of charge while their vehicle is parked.

The airport had a high-speed charging station (requiring advance reservation for use) installed in the "Sky View" Observation Hall parking garage in 2011, so now it hopes to help lessen the burden on the environment by operating a total of five charging stations. Osaka International Airport (also known as Itami Airport) in Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture also has plans to begin installing and operating high-speed charging station equipment in late February.

Other airports that have EV charging equipment for visitors in Japan currently include Haneda, Narita, Mt. Fuji Shizuoka, Chubu International, Kobe, Okayama and Kitakyushu, almost all of which are made available free of charge.
