An expansion will open on April 8 in Terminal 2, the domestic terminal at Haneda Airport (address: 3 Haneda Airport, Ohta Ward, Tokyo). It will have three new gates for aircraft to park and transfer passengers at the "South Pier."

The announcement came from Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd. (same address), which manages and operates the building. The terminal has gradually grown since opening in 2004, adding 5 gates in 2007 and an expansion to the main building's south side in 2010. The three new spots at the South Pier are the final stage of a series of expansions. The new three-story structure will have a floor space of around 10,500 square meters on the building's south end, where the Former Temporary International Terminal Building once stood.

Terminal 2 will now have a total of 23 permanent gates, roughly the same as Terminal 1's 24 gates. Japan Airport Terminal hopes the expansion will make the terminal more convenient by allowing a greater share of travelers to board and disembark directly between aircraft and the building. There is also a new commercial area with stores and restaurants, including a stand-up sushi bar.
