Haneda Airport in Ohta Ward, Tokyo (officially named as Tokyo International Airport) did well in the 2013 World Airport Awards announced in April by London-based research firm Skytrax. Haneda ranked at the top of two categories and placed ninth overall.

For the annual awards, Skytrax conducted ten months of research by collecting questionnaires answered by around 12,100,000 travelers at 388 airports around the world and using the results to calculate assessments of major airports. They were assessed on 39 items covering aspects such as the quality of airport equipment and services during departure and arrival, security procedures, immigration control, and the level of dining and shopping facilities.

Haneda Airport, which includes Domestic Terminals 1 and 2 and the International Terminal, placed first in the World's Best Domestic Airport and Airport Terminal Cleanliness categories.

Haneda's ninth-place ranking among airports worldwide still topped any other Japanese airport, and it ranked fifth in the Best Airports in Asia category.
