The travel agency group run by Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo-based H.I.S. Co., Ltd. will commence service on its Bangkok-based international charter carrier Asia Atlantic Airlines Co., Ltd. (AAA) in July. AAA will begin operating regular charter flights on a route to Narita International Airport outside Tokyo on the 19th and to Kansai International Airport outside Osaka on the 27th.

The new company was set up in December of last year. Although the its name was initially Asia Pacific Airlines Thailand, H.I.S. changed it to Asia Atlantic Airlines with an eye toward expanding its route network into Europe. AAA will start out with a fleet of two Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, each with economy and business class seating for 261 to 269 passengers. Under a contract with H.I.S., the airline will operate daily charter flights on the Narita route until September 29 and the Kansai route until September 27.

AAA President Bobby A. Haque says the new airline aspires to provide full service, unlike low-cost carriers (LCCs), and to offer an affordable travel option during peak travel seasons, when seats are hard to find and prices shoot up. The airline plans to sell charter flight tickets through travel agencies in Japan and other countries.
