ANA's 3rd "Tastes of Japan" Installment Features Miyagi with Local Foods in Business Class and Lounges

On March 1, All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. (ANA) began serving meals of local specialties from the northeastern Japanese prefecture of Miyagi on flights and at airport lounges. The meals are called "Tastes of Japan by ANA: Miyagi."

Intending to contribute to revitalizing Miyagi's economy and attracting more visitors to Japan, ANA has been running the "Tastes of Japan by ANA" project since September 2013 to disseminate information in Japan and abroad about "Japan's pride and values." Every three months the airline features a new prefecture's food, alcoholic beverages, sweets, culture and such, and will introduce all 47 of Japan's prefectures to its customers over a span of around four years. The first prefecture was Kumamoto (Sept-Nov 2013), followed by Hokkaido (Dec 2013 - Feb 2014). Now ANA is featuring the three prefectures of Miyagi, Ehime and Miyazaki in this third installment.

During this installment ANA is serving "beef stew boiled with Matsushima beer" as the main dish for in-flight business class meals on certain international routes. In lounges at Haneda and Narita airports, ANA is preparing famed dishes and local specialties of Miyagi including: Ishinomaki yakisoba, a fried noodle dish featuring brown, twice-steamed noodles; steamed kakiuma oysters from Ishimaki; and, only at Haneda Airport, bean jam-filled wafers by Shiramatsu ga Monaka, a venerable confectionary store founded in 1932.

The ANA lounges at Haneda and Kansai airports are serving local Miyagi sakes: 21 varieties for three months including Kinmon Ryugoku Bekkaku Junmaishu, Hitakami Junmaishu, Haginotsuru Junmai Ginjo, Ginjo Heinojo, Miyakanbai Junmai Ginjo 45% and Hosen Nami no Oto Junmaishu Yuri. (Individual brands will be available at varying times.)

ANA's in-flight TV program, "Sky Eye: Message from the Sky," presents video of Matsushima and other Miyagi scenery. Famous goods and local specialties from Miyagi are for sale at the airline's online shop, ANA Shopping Astyle, and at the ANA Festa store at Sendai Airport.

ANA will be featuring Miyagi, Ehime and Miyazaki goods until May 31.
